The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria welcomed students from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski.”

Second-year law students from the university and their peers from the Student Diplomatic Club visited the Court to learn about the institution’s work.

The group of future graduates had the opportunity to tour the courtrooms, learn how constitutional proceedings unfold, and familiarize themselves with the institution’s work.

A central part of their visit was a meeting with Constitutional Court Justices Krasimir Vlahov and Nevin Feti. It took place in the ceremonial courtroom, where the swearing-in ceremonies for newly elected judges are also held.

The constitutional judges briefed the Sofia University students on the powers of the Constitutional Court, the effect of its decisions, and the status of constitutional judges. Among the main topics that prompted questions from the students were aspects of constitutional review in the Republic of Bulgaria, the institution’s activities, the possibility of expanding access to constitutional jurisdiction, and whether EU law could conflict with the national Constitution not only in theory but also in practice.
