On May 18, 2026, the Constitutional Court initiated Constitutional Case No. 11/2026 at the request of the Pleven District Court, Criminal Division, First Panel, to determine the unconstitutionality of the provision of Article 53, paragraph 1, (a) of the Penal Code, applicable in criminal case No. 695/2026, due to its inconsistency with Article 119 and Article 6, para. 2 of the Constitution.
The rapporteur for the case is Judge Nadezhda Dzhelepova.
